SILKBUSH Mountain Vineyards

THE PROPOSED MANOR HOUSE

SILKBUSH Vineyards proposed Manor House will provide hospitality for vineyard investors and wine industry representatives (winemakers, wine journalists, wholesalers, retailers and chain store buyers). Instead of a traditional "Cape Dutch" design, we have elected to go with a Victorian Farmhouse theme which will look great against the mountains and veld as does the new Guest Cottage. Design enhancements will continue to construction start, but it appears as if the building will be about 5,167 square feet, not including the extensive veranda/stoep area.

The site plan, elevations, floor plan, and working drawings have been prepared by a talented Worcester architect, Wilhelm Martin Basson (wilhelmb@vodamail.co.za or 082-568-2200)

Wilhelm Basson, a residential architect from Worcester, and Anne Thistleton, a former Silkbush Director from Stellenbosch, reviewing the proposed Manor House site in 2001. (We subsequently moved the site 100 meters to avoid a winter wetspot.)

The Manor House building site has been prepared, a road and parking lot graded, and coral trees planted alongside the road. A building permit could be obtained in less than 30 days...

The rough graded building site for the 5,167 square foot, four bedroom/four bath house is just to the left and below. It and the Kingsbury cottage share the same impressive view.

We started the Manor House design effort in 2000, and completed the plan two years later. The building site was graded in 2002 and the road to the site completed and decorative trees along the road planted in 2003. We hope to have started the Manor House by late 2009, which will then be looking down upon our mature vineyards and our lower reservoir, and toward the Western sunsets.
